Get your financial and life information "ducks" in a row. When you get divorced, you need to know what you have/had at the date you married as well as the date you separated. You will need records of your bank accounts, stock accounts, retirement accounts, three years of tax returns (or more), at least three months of pay stubs, mortgage statements, purchase documents for any real estate you own, any refinance documents, any life insurance policies, statements of debt (credit cards, loans), automobile title documents, and any pre- or post-nuptial agreements.

Separate your joint bank accounts, i.e. your checking and savings. Evaluate your pension  (and your spouse's).
